Can You Keep My Secrets?

Pissed Off Mom Doesn’t Get It March 28, 2008

Mmkay, remember that post I did about People Who Don’t Need It?

I posted it December 14.
There were a couple comments within a few days of the post. They were all the commenting I expected.

However in February I got another comment from a woman named Vicki.

My granddaughter has this. She is 2-1/2 and it is serious. If she eats certain foods she gets violently ill. You cannot expect children to be smart enough to know when they are eating foods that have casein, gluten, etc. Typically this condition is very serious. I have never seen a case that isn’t serious. Oh…we just got back from a few days at Children’s Hospital where my little granddaughter was treated for dehydration.

One last item…this is an incredibly expensive condition to treat. The neocate is expensive then there are vitamins, suppliments, and more. Most of the time it accompanies autism, which is the case for my daughter. We have spent thousands of dollars on treatment.

I’m glad they got the house. They deserved it as much as anyone else.

Am I the only person who caught the condescending tone to her comment?

Even without EE.. toddlers get hospitalized for dehydration fairly often when they get sick. So do teenagers… and adults… athletes, and couch potatos… rich people, and poor people.. Stinker was just rehydrated four times in a row… should I use that to show my expetise in hospitals?

Seriously..

I responded to her asking if she’d likeme to take a picture of my closet and I said I’m not unaware of what goes into treating kids.

I probably should have mentioned the hospital thing then. But I wasn’t going to go off and rant to someone in my comments.

As for the food thing. you don’t teach them to read words like gluten or how to identify it. You teach them not to take food from anybody that isn’t mom dad or trusted older aware adult/sibling.

She called me narrow-minded and said I must be fortunate to have the money for Stinker.

Pleasant. I went off and ranted a bit. then a friend of mine who knows about how annoyed I’d gotten with her comments ranted at her too. My friends went a bit far and I mediated it a bit.

Everything calmed down I honestly thought Vicki would reply, but she never did. I thought it was over and done with y’know. Went on with my life. Hung out with Scabbers, went to the Con… come back started working on an Anime Boston page for the blog…

Signed on today and saw a comment from a posted called “Pissed off mom” Nice pleasant name, eh?
Sorry about the sarcasm, but these people have just gone and taken everything I’ve said the wrong way.

I have a 10 year old child with this same disease. Unfortunatly my child is dying from this disease. The doctors have tried everything and my child’s body doesn’t respond to any of the treatments. My child does not have the food allergies. It is something environmental that hasn’t shown up on any tests they have performed. The steroids don’t help either. My child takes medication 18 times a day just to be able to function. My child does wear a mask when we go out because my child is just that sick. The doctor says be glad you have today. We have to travel 700 hundred miles every month for my child to see one of the only 2 hospitals able to treat this disease. My child is hospital/homebound because we have to be in hospitals so much and isn’t able to maintain the strenght most days to leave the house. I have lost my job and only income, filed bankruptcy and lost almost everything to try and save my child. I am glad your children are doing better than mine. I pray it continues that way for you. But reading these comments are heart wrenching because I know how my child’s outcome will be. Please be a little more considerate. Some don’t have it as lucky as you.

Well, for one. I don’t have any children. I am a kid. Well no I suppose I’m an adult leagally now. At the time I wasn’t.

My brother is ten. He’s in better shape that your kid. I’m sorry for you. I’d say sorry he is… but I’m not sorry he’s doing alright. I’m damn pleased. We’re going through a roughspot right now with him. but all has been well until very recently. It’s nothing big just a stomach bug we think.

Unfortunatly. You haven’t realized what I said. I said kids like her’s. Kids with the food allergies. Kids who’s problems are with food. Don’t need that house.

A Child who’s got a severe form of EE that is caused by an unknown environmental factor? THAT’S who should have a house like that.

Congrats Pissed off mom. I have no sympathy for you, for you child I do… I’m sorry his/her mother can’t realize when someones offended in his/her favor. My whole post/rant was about how someone with an environmental problem should have a house like that. Air filters are for people who get sick from airbourne pollens.

Basically… I think you should have gotten that house over them.

Too bad you got too offended by my narrow minded standpoint that you didn’t realize that my narrow minded standpoint was in your favor.

I hope you don’t treat a doctor with as much hopelessness and pitty-me attitude you give me… and I hope you’re stronger for your kid.

We grew up being told we wouldn’t have Stinker either. We just don’t do hopeless too well.

Get a thicker skin for your kid or you’ll pick his/her destiny by not fighting.

Um, oh yeah – I didn’t realize you guys were rich and had all this money either. HAHAHA! If they only knew. And if people would only actually READ stuff before they commented and got all passionate, it would definitely make a difference.
